The Australian Movie Festival

One of our intiatives is The Australian Movie Festival. The idea behind this is to encourage and promote the viewing of Australian movies in cinemas.

How it works:

We source a number of Australian movies from a broad spectrum of genres. The cinema manager selects a number of movies to show. We will then book the cinema for a week with the movies running on rotation. With negotiation with the cinema owner, we will reach a price that will encourage movie-goers to see all the movies - for example, a ticket price of $35 to come see all four movies. This way, people will see more than one movie.

The advantages of The Australian Movie Festival are two fold. Firstly, it supports the Autralian film industry as local independent film makers have the chance to get their work on the big screen and be exposed to a wider audience then they would from DVD or TV release. In some instances, the film makers and actors themselves will come to the cinema for a night to chat about and promote their movie. This is a good drawing card to bring audiences to the cinema and get them interested in Australian content. Some of the movies have already packed out large cinemas due to the meet-and-greet night.

Secondly, the cinema will incur lower costs as it is more economical to run the movies through a movie festival mechanism rather than to buy directly from distributors. We convert the films to digital, supply the movies, distribute them and book out the cinema, which further cut the costs for the cinema!
